This spring, I had the honor to emcee for the annual gala for the Midwest Chinese Chamber of Commerce. The New year gala of the Midwest Chinese Chamber of Commerce is a momentous event to celebrate the most important holiday in Asian culture together with the business partners and members of Midwest Chinese Chamber of Commerce. This year, we brought the business community and beyond (such as education institution) together to mix, mingle and enjoy a fine evening of Chinese cultural celebration. The evening including performance such as lion dance and speech about US-China relationship from our guest speaker, Dr. Robert Riegle.

It was my first experience as a microphone controller. I have attended Midwest Chinese Chamber of Commerce 3 times. My roles in these three events changed from volunteer to guest and finally guest to MC this year. I was very nervous and also extremely excited, knowing that this would be a great opportunity to practice my public speaking skills. I successfully hosted a night with almost 300 important business leaders and elected officials attended. What’s more, I have made a lot of great connections in the business community.

I have learned a lot from this experience. I have learned how to handle situation with hundreds of people and ways to improve my public speaking skills. This was one of my most valuable experience in my college life at University of Cincinnati. I was very glad I could give back to the community in my final semester.
